Set it on an even surface so the weight sits evenly, and empty the top before moving it rather than dragging it loaded. Don't put hot items straight on the concrete, and use a pad if you're writing or pressing on the surface. To keep the finish even, apply a clear furniture wax now and then, adding a thicker coat if any hairline cracks appear. Outdoors, keep it under cover when it's not in use to limit UV fading, and protect it through colder winters.
